I was born in Belgium. My story begins in the heart of my parents’ art gallery, where I grew up surrounded by creativity and the timeless beauty of images. That early connection to art shaped my soul, sparking a passion that never left me. To this day, I seek beauty in every moment — guided by images that tell stories beyond words. For over two decades, I’ve traveled the world with my camera, capturing life through my lens, seeing the world frame by frame, as Max Vicca.

When I was 16 I started taking pictures on a Hasselblad camera that I had bought thanks to my mother. My work radiates a natural vibrancy and cinematic elegance, capturing moments that feel authentic and unposed. I celebrate effortless beauty, where life unfolds organically through my lens. Fascinating encounters, inspiring journeys, and serendipitous moments are my constant companions, shaping each frame into a compelling story that lingers in the viewer’s mind.

I think there’s probably more truth about myself in my portraits than there is about the subject. When someone sits before you, it’s not just their face you’re capturing — it’s their energy, their gestures, their silences. You respond instinctively to their body language, and those subtle cues guide the choices you make as a photographer — the darkness, the light, the angles, the emotions. In those moments, you reveal something true about them, but also about yourself. It’s that dynamic exchange that fascinates me.

There’s a triangle at play — me, the sitter, and the viewer. The viewer is just as essential to the image as the subject. They bring their own emotions and interpretations to the photograph. I’ve created something that stirs a reaction in them — perhaps through the way I’ve positioned my sitter or captured their gaze. But how much of that emotion belongs to me, and how much belongs to the sitter? It’s impossible to know. That mystery, that dance between photographer, subject, and audience — that’s where the magic lies.
